Briefs

Brief one (title): Hub

Problem:

In a tech driven society charity’s really seem to be behind on the times. Me and Elliot have noticed how many people are still standing on the streets asking for donations. In age of instant gratification this seems outdated, we want to create a hub for people to give more. A platform they could use for donating, creating events, talking, networking, learning. With social media being all about the individual we want to challenge this notion with an aim to create a society for everyone.

Could the hub be used to help people redesign there charity

Time Frame

This can span the whole 11 weeks from now

Brief five (title): Food for thought. Competition brief from ISTD / Writing women into history. Competition brief from ISTD

This brief explores the meaning of food. It looks for stories about food and from food that tell another story. This could include the story of the original recipe, its life history and how this has changed over time. Most importantly it is about what those changes signify and how they reflect the people, their culture and their social lives. While the work should clearly identify the essence of the food, its preparation and how and where it is eaten, it should also explore its provenance – the biography, social contexts, and changes that have occurred. In your archaeological dig look for clues of hidden meanings, interesting facts, secondary stories and cultural indicators. Celebrate your discoveries and look for new and exciting ways to engage, express and inform your audience of those findings.

Celebrate the life of a woman who has previously gone unrecognised for her role in the worlds of art, music, science, industry, technology, or any aspect of our culture that you deem worthy and write her back into history. Family history may play a part: were there suffragettes in your family? Did they work during the war? In munitions factories, as land girls, ambulance drivers, perhaps even the resistance movements of occupied nations? Were they unsung in their industries? How about the women that taught you? From your Kindergarten or Nursery Schools, right up to your Degree Courses? Your starting point for this project must be first-hand, found information – primary sources. Do not Google ‘famous women I’ve never heard of’ (c10,600,000 results) … instead, go to your local library, gallery, museum, historical society, and find out about someone that even Google doesn’t know about, or at least, know very much about.

Time Frame is 3 weeks, This will be the next big research breif I undertake

Brief eight (title): Personal Photo Albums

Create a format and grid systems which can be used for a series of indivual trips I have personaly taken. The outcome will be a set of small personal publications but the project will be designed for it to be extended.

Helps increase skills in layout

Time Frame
1 Intense week for this.

Brief Ten
(title): Texting vs real life how things are miscommunication.

Brief Nine (title): Diversity in the fashion industry

I will be working with a photography student to produce a publication celebrating cultural diversity.

The fashion industry has been known for discriminating against models of colour for decades. An issue that has never fully been addressed and still causes problems for young, new models of today. For the practical aspect of this module, I am going to create a series of fashion style images that focus on celebrating cultural diversity. The same theme will run throughout each shoot, however a variety of models from different cultural backgrounds will be used. The final outcome will ideally be a publication showcasing 8-10 models. The intentions for these images, is not to segregate models of colour. I want to make images that bring various ethnicities together, to prove that racial discrimination within the fashion industry should not be an issue in the 21st century.

Time Frame: 1-2 days

(Done) - A small fashion publication for a photography student from Leeds College of Art. This brief was client-driven, with me not having much say in the design itself. It was a good learning curve and experience with working with a client.

Brief

This brief was to layout a fashion shoot created around diversity, think about how different design elements can be used to create an engaging and informative publication.

Idea

Using a bold colour scheme behind each set of images to represent a diverse audience. Colours were chosen by the stylist.

Idea

Looks at creating a bespoke colour for the family or individual from gradients.

Third

My own personal beer branding, I brewed my first batch of beer from a personal interest in beer and the brewing process. In response to this, I decided to create a brand and label around the idea that this will be a skill I continue to evolve. My second motive for this brief is to help me land alecs beer branding brief for basement rat brewery

Brief

This brief is looking for a branding which can grow and evolve with the brewer themselves. The audience for this beer is friends and family only and it will not be on sale. The fact it is out of a passion leaves the brief very much open for exploration.

Idea

The idea is focused on feedback and interaction in order to allow the beer to grow and evolve a labelling system will be created which allows drinkers to response back to beer after drinking. Commenting on location, price, taste, etc

Aim to have done by monday.

Forth

I was out for dinner one evening at a place called the hungry bear. Its a small bistro which serves simple pub food but they do it brilliantly. They also brew all there own beer, the beer taste great and also looks great it's within plain bottles with the just simple label. What I noticed is much their menu didn't fit into the decor and feel of the restaurant. The menus were oversized, chunky, plastic/wooden and looked difficult to change the beer/food lists around. So I decided I would recreate there menu and once done speak to the owners to see if I could photograph the menu within the restaurant. My choice for this project comes from my love and interest within gastronomy.

Brief

Put together a new menu for the hungry bare keep the menu layout simple and easily interchangeable. Keep in mind the current layout and decor of the restaurant, in particular, the way they bottle their beer. Also keep in mind there regularly and audience what age are they?

Idea

My initial idea is to have a very simple wooden board which can be changed by simply reloading with new paper. This would be a very quick brief but could work as a super effective portfolio piece.

Time 1 week

Fifth

Cafe Lento another place where I really enjoy working and eating, Its a beautiful little cafe within headinly that has gigs on every Friday. The owner himself is a really lovely chap and I have spoken to him so this could be an excellent opportunity to land myself some commissioned poster work. I will create a really great poster for one of his up and coming gigs in the hope he asked for another. Alec said this could turn into a really awesome archive of posters if all goes to plan.

Brief

To create a poster for Cafe lentos up and coming gig. The poster should be a way for you to really explore your own style whilst keeping in mind the audience and location itself. As
