Yesterday we was given our first study brief, to rebrand a company using only Massimo Vignelli's 6 essential fonts. The companys used where Crosswater, Help-Link, Global, Coral and Burflex. We was put into a group of 5 and given Crosswater as our company. Here is the logo
So to begin I started by firstly looking into the company by seeing what they sold, who there target audience were and how they presented there products. From this I got that they was a luxury bathroom brand which specialised in mainly taps however still had a vast product portfolio, which a target audience of wealthy middle class home owners.
To kick start the project as a group we decided to create a mind map to get down some quick idea. We then moved onto some drawings and began getting down more initial ideas.
I then went on to look into other luxury bathroom companies I found that half used a serif font and the other half used san-serif however it seemed they the companies using serif although modern took influence from older eras, with products such as handmade freestanding bathtubs. This is a very diffrent style to crosswater who seem to make a big emphasis on there technologie and up to date designs. For this reason I feel a san-serif would fit the job better as its more up to date and corporate.
These are the 5 companies we looked into.
We then all played around with a font each from vignellis 6 fonts, I was given Bodoni. This is in bold, italic and normal. This was to help us get a better idea of how each font looked.
Deciding on a font was a tricky part to help we looked at http://www.ucreative.com/articles/watch-one-graphic-designers-font-selection-process/ for advice.
