Today I received Feedback from peers on my way finding project. I presented my two Ideas and asked for advice in a direction to go, together we all decided my stronger concept was my second which focuses on sustainability and scale within a shopping centre that has limited stores and a large gym, yoga audience. making it the more purposeful idea as the area is rather similar to navigate giving me opportunity to play around.
Feedback sheet one: Associating the the idea with branding and surroundings, will produce a more cohesive compelling design.
'keep it simple and focused' reminding me not to stray to far from what I am trying to achieve, As I do get carried away and become focused on insignificant things. They then went onto say The idea was very material focused which would produce innovative designs which would be unique, memorable through strong features.
Feedback sheet two: Favourite idea was to focus on sustainability and scale. 'eye catching' - 'can be seen from different angles' - 'large physical design'. 'Strong consideration of stock and production' This is something I was defiantly trying to achieve so was very pleased this was visible through the presenting of my work. Helpful advice was saying to consider placement well as this is something 'The audience can psychically get up close and read as apposed to being on a wall from a distance'. So I should take full advantage of this something I didn't actually take much consideration to this is also something which I could defiantly talk about within blog and design boards.
Feedback sheet three: 'considered target audience - bamboo' This is another thing I tried to really focus on within my design decision so I was pleased to see this came through when presenting again. The materials used are aimed to be what audience would like to be around. 'in-depth consideration of materials' This was mentioned a second time and is something I would like to take further by using blog posts and design boards to fully explain material and process. 'eco-friendly and constancy of mats within the core as the inteir is full of wood.
Feedback sheet four: 1st idea makes use of clean, clear and effective colour scheme which communicates floor level however layout within the facilities are very simple with only 2 outlets on floors 2 and 3. Making idea two the more plausible resolution as it experiments with materials and process to a higher degree than idea 1. 2nd idea, 'Innovative idea creates a modern environment out of natural materials' Its good to see peers feel the use of wood can communicate modernisidity as it could be construed as old fashioned and vintage, This is another reason I chose to use bamboo as it is a newer material which is not commonly used however I think as years pass it will begin to be used more and more as a sustainable thinking grows within culture. 'effectively communicates wayfinding' This is a good sign as the system as not been created to inform way finding at its best due to it being a shopping centre i want people to feel relaxed and enjoy the way finding rather than it have a clinical, industrial feel. So to see an outsider agrees they see it as effective communication means I have to strayed to far from the path. 'Explore ideas like later cutting and embossing also look at lighting' This bit of feedback was very helpful as its things i have not actually thought about, I will research into other processes that can be used on the bamboo as for now I have restricted my self to spray painting stencils onto the bamboo. 'Ideas is easily transferable to other areas' Now this is also very pleasing to hear as the ideas around the use of vacuum formed rectangles is that they are adaptable as they will be relatively light so they can be tested in diffrent areas of the outlet the smaller wall mounted pieces can also be used in corners swell as flat surfaces. If pitching to the core this is something I would be highlighting as I did not mention it within my presentation I am pleased to see it has been recognised.
My only concern again with my feedback is I worry peers are worried to offend with critical feedback resulting in an array of good comments which is helpful as I can pick up on common things peers liked however more reasoning for improvements would be helpful. Overall a very useful crit giving me multiple ideas for further research.
