Idea generation

Ideas in order of generation.

This was my first idea it revolved around the brand of the core itself. The idea was to focus on colour and to identify sections of the centre using the colours of the branding its self. These where Green, Blue and red I changed these to pastel colours to create a more relaxed atmosphere as i figured the audience for The Core would be there for leisure meaning they want to experience something more relaxing. The pastel colour allowed enchantment of this as it can be applied throughout the centre, sections of walls etc. Helvetica is used within this methods as it is the most practical and adaptable font available, It can be used in all situation around the centre this being fire exits, opening, shops and still convey a strong all around meaning, whereas some fonts may struggle to adapt to different situation. The idea for signage was to have two layers of recycled acrylic, The back layer within the level colour and the layer above white. The layer above would be laser cut at the bottom to show parts of the coloured layer swell as the levels info itself to inditfy which level customers are on with which shops. This would them apply throughout to smaller sizes which would hang from ceilings and walls. The colours of each level would also be applied to the floors decor which consists of strips at the moment. The ceiling also has a line of lights at the moment which are blue these would also be changed throughout to suit the floor they are on. I would also have the branding simplified by taking about the three colours on the original logo and replace it with just a simply green helping to create a more neutral bespoked feeling within the building.

The idea is to use bamboo plywood throughout the building which is a sustainable resource due to its super fast growing time. This matches regular audience who tend to be people coming to the gym or to yoga, as this fits in within the lifestyle they lead a healthy one which takes into consideration environment through thinks such as organic food this tends to be the case more within yoga. This is not the only audience within the core but it is the audience which return to the centre regularly, So it seemed best to design for these. The idea who sustainability is also one which appeals to many other people and to people who it does not its good to get them involved in something which needs to become a regular within culture and our world. On top of this I would like to include a few concepts I thought could be used to increase customers by creating a more interesting space.

For this Idea I wanted to base it around scale, perception and projection taking into careful consideration of which materials and process are used. This idea of using scale etc came from a lecture with one of our tutors who spoke about thinking outside of the box about how people perceive things, will it make an impact? Can they touch it? So these are the questions I began to ask myself. One of my very first idea was to have the logo The core projected onto the floor entrance, This was because my first few visits I never actually noticed the large size they had above the centre, this would be the same for all pedestrians walking past. So by place a large projection of the logo onto the floor entrance it would instantly begin to catch passers by attention, which in turn could help bring in more customers. One dilemma with this is that as it is projected from above while walking through will it get into people eyes or maybe they feel they have to walk around it, Although this also has the ability to work in favour of the centre because young children may be attracted to this as something to play with at first glance thus bring in parents, This has the possibility to them lead to them going in for some food as there is a large burger king very close to the entrance. The way this would be projected onto the floor is with a goto.

Another idea I had was to create large free standing numbers for each floor with store information burnt into the bamboo wood. This creates something customers can involve them selves more with as it is a psychical object rather than something hanging from a wall. It creates a sense of a awareness for the customer, something which could be bumped into and touched. The process of how this would be made however was unsure to me. It also seemed a slight repetitive because I had the idea to place large bamboo numbering on each level of the stair case after abit of consideration I decided to move on from this idea because having the letters placed on each stair level seems like a more rational idea as it is where indication of floor level is most necessary and will prevent people getting lost much more. Numbering can still be used efficiently without it being solely a number, I also believe the store information is more important in this situation and the numbering will take away from this, It also would use large amount of bamboo to fit my aims it would be best to avoid this as much as possible. However I do believe it would look great aethsticaly. So have decided I want to keep this idea of a free standing psychical item something which can be moved etc as this makes it much more adaptable because it can be used in diffrent areas on diffrent ocations.

I came up with a system that could be adapted to all parts of the centre, It has the ability to be moved and changed to fit different locations, As the centre is an up and coming area I believe this is very important because new store will be opening every now and again. The idea is to have layers of bamboo plywood vacuum formed into a rectangle shape, It will be hollow inside this reduces the amount of materials used, This can form can also be applied to both large free standing signages and smaller information panels creating consistency through the centre. The free standing signs will be very large around 5 - 6 ft tall with a width of good ratio, The floor level will be played onto both front and back panels in the form of layers so it comes out of the board in a 3d manner, Store information could be put on in a variety of ways as feedback suggested. It could be burnt into the boards, cut out of the boards or simply stencilled onto the boards. Personally I think stencilling on is the best route to go as it will be the cheapest and easiest but in addition to this it will be the most versatile and adaptable to the ever growing centre, as quite easily additional stores can be added without the need to replace an entire bamboo board. It will also add a nice Aesthetic which will fit into the design of the overall way finding. As it realistically is only one piece of material folded around it should not weigh a lot this makes it highly versatile allowing for it to be tried and testing in different locations for optimal performance. It will also mean it can be moved in the case of an event for example they are doing a santas groto over christmas, there current system as it can not be moved means equipment must work around the signage, where as my system would mean the signage can work around the equipment making it very adaptable. This system can also be used on a smaller scale as the shape has four sides it allows it to be used within corners, floor to wall, wall to ceiling, on the wall itself both horizontally and vertical. With the same principles used to create a bespoke consistent pieces which harmonies with each other throughout the centre.

Lettering on the stair wells.

have leaflets instead of big selling signs.

Now a issue I saw in The core was defiantly the abundance of renting, leasing signs taking up huge amounts of space or even just small but creating a very horrible look and feel to the place. A very simple idea to concur this would be to have all this information in a small leaflet which has a map of the building as there currently is not one. It could be argued one is not needed as the space is relatively small but this way you could kill two birds with one stone by creating a map which holds all the information needed for people to rent building and put up there adverts as well as something for customers to look at for further directions. Another idea for advertising would be to make use of the pillars within the building there are many pillars with good amounts of free space where posters etc could go to advert and bring in extraa revenue for The core how ever instead they have there tragic logo placed on there.

Picts needed

The current wall at the core hosts a array of badly contrasted images, which do not resemble what they food companies sell in the slightest. My idea is to get rid of this abomination completely and replace place it with simple large lettering of there slogan, eat drink shop. The lettering will be in helvetica bold and stay in capitals. It has to diffrent concepts behind it one being for my first idea which surround the centre in colour, so eat will be pastel green, drink pastel blue and shop pastel red, this also links back to the floor scheme. Green 1st blue 2nd and red 3rd. The letters will be applied vinyl or painted on whichever the core would find worth he money. The Second concept would be taking advantage of sustainable materials again and using bamboo plywood to create large 3d letters. This would fit in with the rest of the decor while showing off the positive ethos of the centre. It also helps way finding as it is a clear indicator of where to eat as the letters will be placed within the eating area.
