Further ideas & notes

Possible features for an app or add on

  • Notifys you after 25 mins of use, 25 mins is the best amount of time for focuses work, I found from research. This notification is ment to snap you out of passively consuming on social media.
  • Blocks adverts on social media.
  • Turns off the video player or finds more relevant videos.
  • Can toggle on friends who are most important
  • Message focus setting
  • Possible timer count down.
  • Finding an incentive to quit the app for example 'Focus now' the plant dies if you leave the focus. Beth suggested a game could be made where you must leave the app befor the squirrel hits the electric pilon.
  • A addon which sits underneath the webbrowser to keep track of usage
  • A redesigned webbrowser all together. using empowering design techinques.
  • Group app which locks out while you are all together.
  • A inspobot which would help you find all your inspration for work projects. Or could filter out all posts on a newsfeed which is not relevant to your current project.
  • An extention which subtle shakes your screen as a friendly remind you have been using an app for 20 mins. You would have the option to add this to whichever webpage you like.
  • A new rating system which goes from fun to helpful,
  • Stripping back facebook to just the raw content.
  • A new likes system which catagories posts you help you find what you want.

General notes

Likes from facebook are held back for 2 seconds then shown on your screen. This creates something called a scheduled reward and create habits & addictions. To keep screen time up.

Fitbit is an example of a company using these habit creating techniques for good.

When are phones go off we release corteisol which makes us aniextus untill we pick up our phone.

Social media are bottomless bowls of media, we play them like slot machines.

People check social media 150 times a day

Distractions decrease productivity by up to 40%

We pick from the menu that is handed to us, so we may not be getting the options we want.

This is an issue because a handfull of app developers have an influence on 1 billion people using there phone.
