SB2 - Product Research

Love Earth publication Primary research source.

The estudio brief advices that we look through a range of pruducts to orginaly give us some ideas and to begin our project from these analysis's of the design. I have on the other hand first broadly investigated my topic and issue of choice. This is for two reasons I like to have a vague understanding of my issue befor looking for products so I have a more focused aim of what im looking for. This can often be clever methods used to communicate and distribute there product or message. Second is by originally looking at other projects sometimes I may struggle to pin point one issue because again i do not have a focus, I tend to enjoy so many solutions I cant decide on a path to go down. I have learnt this from previous projects so have aimed to avoid this.

  1. Coffee ash tray solves the issue of waste, by reusing granules. The granules working as a deodorizes shows a great example of purposeful design. The function here drives the solution for a waste issue.
  2. Green markers - Clever, Simple, Reminder. I thought this was a nice example of something little which could be used as a gentle nudge, to just simply think green through obvious symbols, grass.
  3. Thinking more about materials used (name of project)
  4. Flow market - A conceptual piece with a great quote 'the process of change begins with an awareness that something needs to change.' There is a theme around awareness. got me thinking about using over exaggeration of fruit packaging as concept piece to raise awareness.
  5. Colourless concept - I loved this, I thought it was a great example of how an idea can be your product, very little design needed hear as it is very function driven and purposeful. The distribution works across the world, the adaptability of ideas such as this are work make it so great.
  6. The 111 Navy Chain - Inspired me to think about the bigger picture, by looking at the extraordinary. There example of this is 1 cup is just recycling but 111 is more tangible its an actual chair. Giving ideas abit more tangibility creates much more depth that a consumer or audience can be aware of.
  7. Universal Packaging - This really caught my eye, I have seen lots about this issue currently within the media. A documentary by Hugh freeman attempted to expose companys which were over packaging. Amazon being a large culprit.
  8. Garwins Martins Rabbit - Simple got me thinking about other ways to communicate such as through creating sets and photographing. It was also a lovely example of design wrapped in meaning and sustance as it was very well informed piece.
  9. Translgass - Beautifully produced sustainable design, another great example of function and purpose driven design.
  10. A Bitten plate - A very much liked this project, It linked in nicely to my recent research on perfection in society. The use of dirubtion on something such as a plate can really have a impact, its something we are so used to seeing a ordinary. That the disturtion really begins to stand out. This was a very interesting response to food waste, It reminded me of a talk in D&AD which spoke about us moving away from perfection in food and onto ugly as beautiful. This plate is a reminder of how imperfection is beautiful, this could influence our decision making when purchasing fruit and veg. Thus leading to a change in consumer behavaur that super markets will have to responde to.
  11. Octopus pet - Using toys as way to teach children about these issues. In the long term this is a flawless technique to having a sustainable planet. It also helps to collect waste, What I liked about this was I missed the message behind it untill I read the paragragh. An example of how projects can have multiple layers of information.
  12. Peanut M&M Wrapper Dress - This got me thinking of another talk in D&AD where they spoke about a women who grew here own wedding dress as which felt it was a waste to buy this product for one day. And to expect much more of this in the future.
  13. Global Warming posters - Bringing attention to consumer habits of the west which are the cause for these products being made.
  14. Sprout - Using symbotics to raise awareness.
  15. Nice planets exhibition - Very interesting looking exhibition posipull further research.
