SB2 - Social medias affect on mental health to social ideals of perfection

Reading through this article there was something that really stuck out to me. It was this sentence about social media creating pressures for perfection which creates standards we just can't sustain. I think this is a very relevant and true. This lead me to researching more into social pressures creating by social media rather than the mental health issues it may be creating. Because my issue with the mental health aspect is there seems to also be lots of positives one research I read suggested facebook can help with social aniextys.

Argued Benefits to Mental Health

  • Social connections reduce depression and anxiety.
  • Facebook and social media can be helpful for people suffering from social anxiety as they provide the opportunity to develop social relationships on-line without the stress that face-to-face interactions provoke.7
  • Facebook connectedness is associated with lower depression and anxiety and greater satisfaction with life.8
  • Facebook boasts numerous mutual support groups for people struggling with difficult circumstances; particularly useful for people who do not live in areas where meetings are scheduled or are more likely to participate in an online platform due to privacy concerns.
