I aimed to create a food journal which explores the four primal elements and how they work alongside how we cook.
My publication is 195 mm width by 243 mm height I created it this format to help accommodate the images that I used. As a large proportion of them where longer in width that height I wanted to create something that was not to bigger in height that width. However I did not want the width higher that height as my aim is to create a booklet which can be easily picked up and read, I find with a larger width sometimes the books can become awkward to hold especially in larger sizes.
I used a 4 by 4 grid within a 13 mm margin this margin size left me enough room for mistake when putting the publication together. The 4 by 4 grid worked well with the size of my booklet. It also worked well with my text as they was usually in columns of two or one. I also tried out a 6 by 6 as well an a 8 by 8 each worked well however I find it easier working within a larger grid.
All subheading where set in cardamon semi bold - italic, as cardamom was my main type face which ran throughout including title and table of content. This kept some constancy. For my Headlines the typeface changed between cardamon Medium & Avenir Bold my reason for this was to keep each chapter slightly changing then back to create a sense of rhythm throughout the publication. It is also a way to keep readers engaged, swell as challenge the 'rules' of graphic design. I used indesign to put together all my content.
I tried to keep all my images very colourful and vibrant avoiding harsh contrasts and backgrounds. An example of this was went deciding on my imagery of for page 7. And the back colours of my chapters.
